Abstract

The difference in soil fertility between land which was slashed and burned for farming purpose forty years ago and land which remained untached were investigated. The study area is located at the 430〜550m elevation level of Mt. HAKUSAN. The differences between slashed and burned soil in comparison with untouched soil after about forty years are : (1) organic contents of the former sample less rhan the latter ; (2) the soil pH level of the former sample was higher somewhat ; (3) the phosphoric acid contents were higher in the former sample.
