I wish to report my concern about a student who has been melancholiac for half a year. She attempted suicide twice this term, because she wanted to gain the attention of the counselor. Usually, the friendships with her friends allowed her the opportunity to escape depression. Although occasionaly these friendships did result in deeper depression, meeting with friends who accept her was usually a cue to escape melancholy. Care should be taken to use a check list, so that the counselors preconception won't affect the results. I have experienced this with the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Since it doesn't involve the counselor's evaluation, the Baum Test allows clients to easily express themselves and is prepared.
