During the course of our studies on physiologically active substances in citrus fruit peels, one nitrogenoused compound and four alkyl glycosides were isolated from the unshiu, hassaku, yuzu and iyokan peels, and their structures were determined by MS, ^1H-NMR and ^<13>C-NMR spectroscopy. They were : N, α', N', α-cyclo di (4-methyl aminobenzene ethanol) [1], ethyl alcohol 1-β-glucopyranoside [2], propyl alcohol 1-β-glucopyranoside [3], hexyl alcohol 1-β-glucopyranoside [4] and hexyl alcohol 1-β-glucopyranosyl (1→6) -β-apiose [5]. Each component was intravenously injected in SHR-SP (1mg/ 100g body weight), and compound [2] was found to lower blood pressure, but compounds [1], [4] and [5] raised blood pressure. Among these compounds, [1] and [5] are new compounds, while [2], [3] and [4] were found in yuzu and iyokan peelings for the first time.
