コミュニケーション研究者のあいだで, 発話を文という統語的単位と同一視する考えや, 文=発話をもっぱら話し手の意図・想定・思考が伝達されるための道具だとする考えが広く行き渡っている。本稿および続稿は, 会話の中で生じる 「引き取り」 という現象の分析を通じて, 以上の考えが一面的であることを例証し, 発話が何ごとかを伝達しているだけでなくさまざまな利用を許容しているという視点が必要であることを主張する。本稿ではまず, 会話の中で統語的単位がしばしば聞き手の参与に対して開かれた性質を帯びることを示し, それを可能にする契機をシークエンス環境に焦点を当てて分析する。

Based on previous works by conversation analysts such as G.Lerner who has shown the production of a syntactic unit is an interactional achievement, this article describes typical sequential environments of collaborative utterances. In analyzing Japanese conversational data, six sequential environments are shown to be the typical locations where collaborative utterances are produced; 1)display of understanding or understanding check, 2)joint additional remembering, 3)commentary on the present occasion, 4)series of self-report, 5)joint explaining and 6)additional explaining. It is also shown that in these sequential environments co-participants pre-display or pre-claim that they are accessible to utterances that are subsequently co-produced.
