Abstract
type:Article
Tomohiro Koseki is a well-known labor writer who has been working as a skilled machinist for over forty years in Tokyo. He has published many books in which the life and work of factory workers in small factories at Kamata and Ohmori are described very vividly and in depth. These publications can be regarded as an excellent collection of labor history documents in post-war Japan. The article attempts to describe the career patterns of skilled factory workers in Tokyo by utilizing Koseki's writings. The setting is a small factory in a town called "machi-kohba". The article focuses upon two specific points: the career-patterns of machi-kohba workers, and the processes by which their skills were acquired. This article is an introductory part of the essay.
