Fossil molluscan assemblage from an Upper Miocene Kaigarabashi Sandstone Member of the Yakumo Formation in Southwest Hokkaido is reported on from a paleoecological viewpoint. This assemblage is characterized by Placopecten setanaensis and associated with Nanaochlamys notoensis and Kotorapecten hagamianus. From the modes of occurrence, shell preservation and associated forms, it is presumed that the extinct species Placopecten setanaensis lived on the coarse sandy bottom of upper neritic affected oceanic waters.
