Increasing Acid Resistance of Pit and Fissure Enamel by Means of Nd-YAG Laser Irradiation

Acid resistance of humen dental enamel of pit and fissure with Nd-YAG Iaser irradiation were estimated. The acid resistance of pit and fissure was evaluated by the amount of dissolved calcium from the surface area. Pit and fissure enamel treated with laser irradiation obtained higher resistance than that of the unlased control. The result suggests that Nd-YAG laser irradiation might be effective in increasing the acid resistance of the pit and fissure enamel. The laser irradiation was found to clean the pits and fissures to a greater depth without altering the shape of pits and fissures.
