One of the museum's activities is to reevaluate the materials at its disposal. Reexamined and reevaluated in this paper are materials unearthed at locality B・C of the Oketoazumi Site, Hokkaido kept by the Archeological Museum of Meiji University. Locality B・C is one of the industries of microlithic culture at the end of the Paleolithic Age, near an obsidian producing area. Studies of the Hokkaido microlithic culture have been vigorously conducted since the Pirika technique was applied in 1985, with a wide range of perspectives proposed. This is the backdrop against which a reexamination was performed of a series of processes for the manufacture of microlithic blades involving stone tools unearthed at locality B・C and work conducted there. The study revealed that the manufacture of microblades involved different techniques and a separate series of processes from those of flake gravers, and tools such as end scrapers. The features of the manufacturing technique and those for forming microblades produced a picture of the processes for making microblades related to Sakotu microcores. However, locality B・C produced 42 spalls for preparing a platform, which were byproducts of the manufacture of microcores, but no Sakotu microcores were excavated. This led to the conclusion that operations with blanks of microcores mostly involved the introduction of obsidian to the site and making blanks of microcores needed for the manufacture of microblades. The blanks of microcores thus produced were then carried to another site to be used as a material for microblades. The structure of the complex stone tool industry at the Oketoazumi Site is yet to be revealed and the whereabouts of blanks of microcores brought out will have to be identified.
