The shear walls are commonly used in reinforced concrete structures As compared with rigid frames, the shear walls are possessed of the great horizontal rigidity and ultimate strength For this reason, the shear walls in reinforced concrete structures are imoprtant structural elements against the horizontal load such as earthquake In this study, to clarify the elasto-plastic behaviors of shear walls with different wall thickness, shear walls without and with opening with same boundary frames were tested under alternating horizontal loads The test program was composed of two series in which one is 5cm wall thickness and the other is 10cm wall thickness The following items are compared and discussed. 1) Crack patterns, crack propagation and mechanism of failure 2) Load-deformation hysteresis loops 3) Deformation characteristics 4) Decrement ratio of shearing rigidity after cracking 5) Absorbed energy 6) Deformation of boundary frame and area expansion of shear walls 7) Ultimate strength of shear walls with opening
