Parkinson's disease and related disorders are diagnosed as "shaking disorder" in traditional Chinese medicine. The pathogenesis of "shaking disorder" in traditional Chinese medicine is reported as "up-stirring of liver-wind", and its basic pathological state divided into three groups ; flare-up of liver fire, deficiency of the liver-blood and deficiency of liver-yin. To confirm the pathogenesis of "shaking disorder", we selected three different neurologically verified (in western medicine) parkinsonian disorders (essential parkinsonism or Parkinson's disease, progressive sunranuclear palsy and drug-induced parkinsonism), and examined these patients using differential diagnostic method in traditional Chinese medicine. Patient 1 diagnosed as Parkinson's disease in western medicine was found to be "flare-up of liver fire", patient 2 diagnosed as progressive supranuclear palsy to be "deficiency of liver-blood" and patient 3 diagnosed as drug-induced narkinsonism to be "deficiency of liver and kidney-yin". We believe that it is quite important to clarify the differential diagnosis in traditional Chinese medicine according to the pathogenesis when we treat the incurable neurological disorders of unknown etiology.
