Abstract
From abdominal tips of virgin females of the common apple leafroller, Hoshinoa longicellana WAKSINGHAM, (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate were isolated and identified as sex pheromone components. The ratio of (E)-and (Z)-isomers was 1 to 5 in virgin female moths. These two compounds were almost inactive individually, but a potent biological activity was revealed by mixing them. Mixtures of synthetic (E)-and (Z)-isomers in ratios ranging from 1 : 9 to 4 : 6 attracted male moths in the field.
