Changing the strengths of the spin-orbit and the l^2 terms of the Nilsson potential is found to be able to bring about a situation in which the majority of atomic nuclei bear oblate shapes at their ground states, while the standard strengths and some different combinations of the strengths give rise to situations in which prolate shapes are dominant. Pairing correlation is found to further enhance both of these prolate and oblate dominances.
