抄録
A new type tetrahedral anvil apparatus having the maximum output of 450 tons was designed and constructed for high pressure and high temperature works. Apparatus was operated satisfactorily within the elastic limit up to its maximum output. And generated pressure of 59 and 88 Kb were confirmed by the phase transition of Ba II-III and Bi V-VI, respectively. Efficiency of pressure generation was about 65% at 88 Kb.<BR>From the results, following facts were clarified:<BR>1) Formation of gaskets in the tetrahedral anvil apparatus was almost completed until the nominal pressure (applied load/anvil area) reached about 10 Kb.<BR>2) The gasket area increased with the increase of the ratio of the change in thickness.<BR>3) Deviation of thickness of gasket was influenced by incorrect positioning of an anvil.
