A 69-year-old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of an abdominal tumor and gastrointestinal bleeding. The tumor was prospectively diagnosed as an extrahepatically growing hepatocellular carcinoma protruding from the lateral segment with invasion to the stomach. Tumor extirpation with partial hepatectomy and distal gastrectomy was performed. The tumor was 19×16×13cm in size and weighed 2120g. Extrahepatically growing hepatocellular carcinoma usually responds favorably in surgical resection, but invasion to the liver and adjacent organs is sometimes observed. Therefore precise preopeartive diagnosis and selection of the appropriate operative method are important.
