An extended scale for activities of daily living (ADL), comprised of 8 items from Barthel Index and 4 instrumental ADL items from TMIG Index of Competence, was applied to 23 patients with spinocerebellar degenerations (SCD). Also maximum walking speed for 10m distance was examined in 13 patients. Scalogram analysis revealed the coefficient of reproducibility=0.95 and that of scalability=0.81, indicating the unidimensionality and cumulativeness of the scale. The relation of the maximum walking speed to the score of extended ADL was significant (p<0.01). The extended ADL scale was a reliable and valid instrument for assessment of functional status of patients with SCD.
