In the excitation spectra of fluorescence in anthracene crystals of about 2 mm in thickness, a main peak is found at about λx=420 nm at room temperature which moves to λx=405 nm at liquid nitrogen temperature with narrowing and three minima are observed at λx=353, 373 and 393 nm where the absorption maxima are expected. These characteristics can be qualitatively explained by the steady distribution of the singlet excitons produced by the monochromatic irradiation together with the Urbach rule.
