Chaotic State in an Electronic Circuit:Analysis of Gollub et al.'s Experiment

Abstract

The experimental results of Gollub et at. are analysed by taking into account thereal current-voltage characteristics of tunnel diode. The characteristics is appro-ximated by a piecewise linear function. Then, we get a satisfactory agreement withthe experimental results. The system is equivalent to the coupled two limit-cycleoscillators. For an appropriate coupling strength and frequency ratio a chaoticstate arises. The return maps and the power spectra are given to ascertain theexistence of the chaos. For a set of parameters deduced from the experiment thephase diagram is shown.
