The Brillouin scattering spectra of B2O3 glass have been observed as a function of temperature is a range from 300 K to 630 K over the glass transition temperature Tg. The Brillouin frequency shifts of both the longitudinal and the transverse modes are almost independent of temperature below Tg, and show a gradual decrease with increasing temperature above Tg. An analysis is proposed using a modified two-state model, where a freezing of the two-state system was assumed and a background term in the free energy was taken into consideration. The model gives us a consistent description of the temperature dependence of the Brillouin frequency shift with the other quantities, the specific volume and the heat capacity.
