Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) powders with SiC platelets dispersion were synthesized by a wet process (at 98℃ for 24h) and hydrothermal process (at 150℃, 0.5 MPa for 4h). The transmission electron microscopy showed that SiC platelets were homogeneously surrounded by fine HAp crystals. The SiC-HAp composites were sintered at various temperatures. SiC loading obstructed the densification but improved the Vickers hardness up to 1.3 times that of pure HAp ceramics.
