Abstract

Panulirus longipes from Ogasawara waters is divided into two forms, viz., "Aka-ebi" without cross-bands on the antennular flagella (Plate 1) and "Shirahige-ebi" with white cross-bands (Plate 2). The two forms are striped-legged and clearly belong to P. longipes femoristriga defined by GEORGE and HOLTHUIS (1965). The color and morphological features of both forms are described and the geographical distribution of both forms are surveyed on literature. The form with cross-banded flagella is present in northern and southern marginal areas of the distribution of P. longipes (Japanese waters including Ogasawara, New Hebrides, New Caledonia, Fiji and Cooks), while the form without cross-banded flagella is obtained from Ogasawara waters and others (except above-stated areas).
