Abstract
The adults, male and female, of Tanypus formosanus (Kieffer, 1912) are redescribed, while the immature forms, pupa and larva, are described for the first time. This species has been treated as a junior synonym of T. punctipennis Meigen, 1818 for a long time, but their immature forms are quite distinct.
