In Wei Chi (Wei Record) concerning Japanese people in \"San-kuo Chi\", which is the contemporary historical record in the 3rd century, thirteen numerical values of \"Li\" and one numerical value of \"Pu\" are mentioned \"Li\" as the unit of distance and \"Pu\", one which is considered as the sub-unit of \"Li\". The former has occupied the central position in the controversy concerning the locations of the Yamatai Kingdom and other kingdoms, together with the accounts of date, direction and course thereof, and the latter, as relating to the archaeological problem of the tomb system concerning the scale of Himiko's burial mound and the historical period when the ancient tomb was constructed. Especially, among the accounts relating to length, those of the numerical values of Li(Pu) mentioned in the passage \"twelve thousand odd Li from the country to the Queen Kingdom\" and in the description, \"Himiko died and a large burial mound was constructed, whose diameter was one hundred odd \"Pu\". On her death, one hundred odd man-servants and maid-servants killed themselves to be buried near her body\" show the number of \"Li\"(Pu) for the distance from Daebang to the Queen Kingdom (Yamaichi Kingdom). Thus, their relation to the objects for which the the numerical values of Li(Pu) indicate as the historical evidence whichi clearly shows the diameter of Himiko's burial mound can be clearly understood, and it is probably no exaggeration to say that difference in comprehension according to (or not according to ) the standard of the unit of Li(Pu) in this part has given rise to the controversy, the issue of which is quite unascertainable. This paper, before re-verifying these accounts, first refers to the standard of the unit of Li(Pu) which has been shown by the history of researches into the measure in the Orient, and taking up to the un derstanding indicated by the prewar and post-war researches of the Yamatai Kingdom in the interpretation of the passages including the accounts about length of Li(Pu), seeks to establish anew the premise for criticizing the historical literatures about the length of Li(Pu) from the points of inducting the numerical value of Li(Pu) mentioned in Wei Chi Concerning Japanese People from the examin Wei Chi Concerning Japanese People from the examples of use of these units mentioned in the whole of \"San-kuo Chi\" and further from those mentioned in the prior and later historical records, while referring to the problematical points in recent controversy relating to short measure (length) used in Wei and Jin dynasties.
