Abstract
The present paper describes that the Navier-Stokes equations in cylindrical coordinate can be discretized without any singularity such as an axis of a circular pipe by means of a radial flux q_r=r×u_r formulation based on a control volume finite difference method with a staggered grid system. The direct numerical simulation (DNS) based on this formulation has been carried out for a fully developed turbulent pipe flow and is compared with the previous DNS results. The turbulent quantities and their budgets obtained by the present DNS are in very good agreement with the previous data. The present DNS results can be used as a reference data base.
