This study presents experimental results of squeal in the disk-pad-caliper system, which is modeled after an actual disk brake. The system consists of a disk clamped along the inner edge and a pad supported by a plate spring (caliper). The frequency of squeal generated in the disk-pad-caliper system becomes higher as the thickness of the plate spring (pad support rigidity) grows large. When the squeal frequency is high, the disk vibrates in the high order mode, which has many nodal diameters. Squeal vibration the disk has standing wave mode and vibration on the plate on the plate spring has travelling wave mode.
