Abstract
In this paper, we describe a method for addition of depressions to a thin plate to minimize sound radiation power. The size, position and aspect ratio of depressions were set as the design variables. The modal parameters (natural frequencies and mode shapes) of the plate with the depression were calculated, and then the relationship between the reduction of sound radiation power and the design variables were investigated. As the result, the effective addition of depressions to reduce sound radiation power was indicated.
