Abstract
Water-tunnel tests were conducted to investigate a flow-induced vibration of a circular cylinder in-line direction. Added fluid forces were measured acting on a circular cylinder excited forcedly in in-line direction. As a result, it was confirmed that negative damping forces act on a cylinder in a certin range of reduced flow velocity where self-induced oscillations with symmetric vortex shedding occurred in free-oscillation tests in previous studies.
