Abstract
A three-dimensional mathematical model of tracked vehicles including the effect of torsion bar type suspension system was constructed for the simulations of vehicle motion on non-flat terrain. The equations of motion for the vehicles were first set up for the body and the wheel arms separately, then the redundant variables were eliminated by using the constraint conditions of connectivity at the points where the wheel arms are attached to the body. Numerical analyses with the proposed model for negotiating behavior over a bump were conducted. A scale model experiment was also performed to examine the theoretical model.
