In recent years, the speed-up of railway transportation among big cities has become necessary. However. it brings about a problem of worse ride comfort and noise. Therefore, a vibration control system using semi-active suspension is developed in this study, since it needs little consumption of energy. The semi-active suspension is designed for 1/1 railway vehicle model in which vertical and horizontal directions of vibration are taken into consideration. In this semi-active suspension the damping coefficient is changed. The controller of semi-active suspension is designed by the bilinear optimal control theory. In computer simulation. its performance is compared with the one designed by the skyhook control theory. As results, it is demonstrated that the bilinear semi-active control system reduces vibration and improves ride comfort.
