The dynamic behavior of a damped vibration system containing thixotropic materials is experimentally investigated. Thixotropic materials are substance which liquefy when stirred or shaken and return to the hardened state upon standing. We construct a vibratory system containing thixotropic material and performed vibration tests using the vibratory system with two pairs rotating unbalances turning in opposite directions. The amplitude of vibration and radiated noise from the vibratory system are measured. The tests indicate that the damped system containing thixotropic materials show good vibration characteristics. As the consistency of thixotropic materials increases, the sound pressure level at resonance decreases, and even the degree of increase of sound pressure level at the higher values of the forcing frequency is smaller than in the experimental results of viscous damper.
