In this thesis, a two-dimensional confined oscillatory jet with a downstream target, namely, a fluidic oscillator, is studied experimentally and numerically. Experimentally, three sizes of square cylinders are studied as the target, varying the Reynolds number and the distance from the jet exit to the target. The numerical method adopted here is a finite difference method (FDM) formulated in terms of vorticity and stream function. As a result, It is found that the Strouhal number depends primarily both on the distance and on the target size, and that the critical distance above which flow begins to oscillate becomes larger as increasing target size. Numerical results qualitatively coinside with experiments in low-Reynolds-number range.
