Abstract
FeAl and Fe_2Al_5 intermetallic compound coatings were formed on the low-carbon steel by pack aluminizing, and dry reciprocating sliding tests were carried out against a ball of SUJ2. It turned out that the wear loss of FeAl coating was smaller than that Fe_2Al_5 coating, and also that coefficient of friction of FeAl coating and that of Fe_2Al_5 coating after running of 500m are about 0.70 and 0.60,respectively. Wear behavior in the early stage was significantly different between FeAl and Fe_2Al_5 coatings. A Plastic deformation occurred on the wear side of FeAl coating, which appears to be adhesive wear, On the other hand, a large amount of cracks occurred in Fe_2Al_5 coating from early stage, which gave rise to a flaking.
