Abstract

The paper presents a study on the active control of the wake behind a circular plate. The circular plate has six built-in electromagnetic actuators, which are can generate radial displacement at the edge of the plate. Helical vortex is formed in the wake of a circular plate when it is placed in a uniform flow. The displacement of the actuators driven at different patterns and frequencies was used to control the vortex in the wake. The experimental results show that the intensity of turbulence in the wake can be successfully reduced when the actuators are driven in an appropriate pattern and frequency.
