石塚龍麿と橋本進吉 : 上代特殊仮名遣の研究史を再検討する  [in Japanese] What Does HASHIMOTO Shinkichi OWe ISHIZUKA Tatsumaro for the Study of Two Types of Man'yogana?  [in Japanese]

Abstract

Scholars in Japan believe that HASHIMOTO Shinkichi first discovered the distinction between two types of man 'yogana, the so-called korui-type and otsurui-type, and that he was the first to describe the phonological background of the two types. In fact, ISHIZUKA Tatsumaro, a student of MOTOORI Norinaga, had already distinguished these two types in detail in his Kanazukai oku no yamaji at the end of the 18 th century. HASHIMOTO Stated that he discovered the distinction between the two types, while confessing that he had read ISHIZUKA's book before he began his study of that distinction. Indeed, HASHIMOTO repeated ISHIZUKA's errors : he distinguished the syllable nu in two ways and also distinguished the syllable ti in two ways only in Kojiki. However, MOTOORI and ISHIZUKA had already discovered the phonological back-ground of these two types before HASHIMOTO carried out his phonological research in detail.
