抄録

Magnetic field effects on the growth rate of protein crystals and the convection in an aqueous electrolyte solution are outlined. It was found that a steady and homogeneous magnetic field decreased the growth rate of hen egg-white lysozyme crystals and also the flow rate of the buoyancy convection in a NaCl aqueous solution. The magnetic damping of the convection may be responsible for the decrease in the growth rate.
