人間は自分と類似した態度をとる他者に対して好意を抱く傾向がある．さらにこの傾向には，類似した他者とのインタラクションを想定した場合，その者との作業の円滑な進行が実現する可能性を高める効果がある．本研究では，このような社会心理学的知見をもとに，人間と擬人性を付与したエージェントとの間において人間同士と同様な社会的インタラクションが成り立っていることを心理実験を通して実証した．本実験の仮説としては，人間--エージェント間においても人間同士と同様な社会的インタラクションが観察できると考えた．それにともなって，ユーザが表明した意見に同意するエージェントの方が中立的な立場をとるエージェントと比較してその後のインタラクションにおいてより親和的な反応を示すと予測した．心理実験の結果，人間が表明した意見に同意したエージェントに対して人間同士の場合と同様に親和的反応を引き起こしていたことが明らかになった．このことから仮説は支持され，人間とエージェント間においても社会的インタラクションが成り立っていることが示された．さらに，これまで人間--エージェント間インタラクションにおいて着目されていなかった，暗示的な働きかけによってユーザの行動を無自覚的に誘導する機構の有用性も示唆された．

People tend to favor the opinions of those who previously made thesame decisions as theirs. We conducted an experiment to investigatethe effect of sharing opinions with interface agents on subsequenthuman behaviors. Three agents with distinctive appearances were usedin the experiment. In the first stage, several questions are posed toa subject by the Presider agent, and the Agreeable agent showsexplicit agreement to all of the answers by the subject, whereas theNeutral agent doesn't show any agreement. Then, in the second stage,both the Agreeable and Neutral agents state their own opinions to aquestion by the Presider agent, and the subject is required to choosebetween the two. All possible assignments (three patterns) of theroles of Presider, Agreeable and Neutral to the three agents wereincluded in the experiment to exclude the possibility of decisionsbased on subjects liking a particular agent's appearance. TheAgreeable agent was consistently in favor of the subject's decisions. We examined how the subject indicates sympathetic responses to theAgreeable agent after he/she interacts with agents. The resultsshowed that people tend to behave favorably toward opinions of agentsthat previously agreed with their decisions. This suggests thatHuman-Computer interaction has the same social dynamics as Human-Humaninteraction.
