Abstract
Ordered Fe-Pt (001) thin films on glass substrates were studied from the viewpoint of their application in future high-density magnetic recording media. A 13-nm-thick film with fine discrete domain patterns was successfully prepared by a high-pressure sputter-deposition method. The magnetic property showed a small value of Hc/Hk and a steep M-H loop, suggesting a strong exchange interaction. Judging from the high SNR for the Fe-Pt film medium, similar to that for a low noise Co-Cr_<22>-Nb_4 medium, it is conclued that the Fe-Pt medium may have high potential as a new recording medium.
