To determine the spread of resinous canker disease of Hinoki (Chamaecyparis oblusa (SIEB. et ZUCC.) ENDL.) in young plantations caused by Monochaetia unicornis (CKE. et ELL.) SACC., the number and location of resinous lesions on trees have been recorded from 1984 to 1986 at two stands in Hyogo Prefecture. From the distribution of infected trees, it was appeared that the disease originated from older infected Hinoki trees in and around the plantations. It also was found that the disease incidence and severity increased rapidly. The mean number of resinous lesions per tree increased two to three times annually. These findings suggest that this disease spreads steadily throughout young plantations within several years.
