The members of the genus Streptosporangium COUCH (1955) were found to be widely distributed in the soil of Japan. To the isolation of these members the same method as that for the genus Microbispora was applied.According to the taxonomic characters of the isolates, they were classified into five species and the following were described as new species : S. album, S. viridialbum, S. amethystogenes, S. vulgare. As it was seen in the genus Microbispora, there were found some strains producing violet crystals on certain agar media, along with antibiotic strains. And also all the strains required B-vitamins for the growth. In the microscopy of this genus and Microbispora, there was not so great interspecific difference in each genus as in the genus Streptomyces. This fact may support the opinion of separating Streptomyces into certain taxa, which are morphologically more defined.
