カタカナ表記からの英単語検索システムの実現  [in Japanese] Implementation of English word retrieval system with Katakana  [in Japanese]

検索キーの柔軟性を高める一手法として,英単語を発音のカタカナ表記から検索する手法(カタカナ検索)を実現した.カタカナ検索により,ユーザはカタカナ語の表記のゆれを気にせず検索できる(例:ジェスチャー/ジェスチャ/ゼスチュア→gesture).実現方法として,発音記号からカタカナ表記を自動生成し,表記のゆれを吸収する一意短縮アルゴリズムを単語の登録時と検索時にともに適用する.本手法の検索効率の評価を行ったところ,再現率82.3%,適合率76.6%を得た.さらに,この機能を英和電子辞書に組み込み,社内使用を実施した結果,スペルチェックなどに役立つことがわかった.以上により,本方式の有効性を確認した.

This report describes the implementation of "English word retrieval system with Katakana (Katakana retrieval)". "Katakana" (Japanese syllabic character) is especially used for notation of loan word, but the notation has many variants. "Katakana retrieval" is one of methods for flexible keyword notation in looking up electronic dictionary. It can realize direct looking up of English dictionary from Katakana variants. In this method, recall factor is 82.2%, while precision factor is 76.7%. As a result of corporate internal use, it proved effective for enhancing the flexibility of keyword for retrieval, especially for spelling check.
