Abstract
Our research aims at realizing effective iterative design which is for developing products with high usability. For designing user interface(UI) interatively (i.e., redesigning UI incrementally using feedbacks from usability evalutation), it is effective to support UI design/evaluation by computer systems. In other words, effective iterative design can be done in environment of UI-CAD and CAUT(Computer-Aided Usability Testing). This paper proposes a method for analyzing common user errors in the usability testing support system "UI-tester". The proposed method extracts common patterns of user errors from recorded data of user-machine dialogues by flexible pattern-matching. With this method, evaluators can let result of usability test free from the undesirable effect of indivisual differences among subjects, and easily find usability problems.
