Abstract
Recently, several methods to predict the liquefaction of sandy soil due to earthquake motion have been proposed. Some methods to prevent the damage of structures due to the liquefaction also have been developed. In this paper, several problems awaiting solution in those methods are discussed. Some of them are as follows. 1) The limitations of a simple method for estimating liquefaction resistance from SPT N-values should be studied. 2) Methods to evaluate quantitatively the settlement of structures, the sliding of slopes and the uplift of buried facilities are desired to be studied. 3) The low-priced methods to prevent damage of existing structures are necessary to be developed.
