新潟県の地すべりと地質との関係  [in Japanese] On the Relationship between Landslides and Geology in Niigata Prefecture  [in Japanese]

Abstract

Niigata prefecture has the most frequent occurrences of landslides in Japan. Many landslides especially occur in the Neogene Tertiary area in the western part of the prefecture, called the Kubike district, and they are mainly generated by the melting snow in spring. Quite a few outstanding studies on landslides in these areas have been reported. However, research on the relationship between the occurrence of landslides and the geologic environment in the entire Niigata prefecture is very few. According to the geologic features, the author divided Niigata prefecture into 5 areas, and analyzed statistically each formation in each area. The results are as follows: The occurrence of landslides depends on the geologic structure of each area. For example, faults, folding axies, intrusive rocks and lava flows are related to the occurrence of landslides. The landsliding soil is characterized by the basement rock facies. A clear relationship between the sliding forms and soil was found.
