Abstract
ESR dating of fault movement was described. The principle of the dating is based on the complete resetting of paramagnetic defects in quartz grains from fault gouge at the time of fault movement. The conditions of stress and temperature for resetting was obtained in laboratory, and it is confirmed by the experiment that the accumulated defects in quartz grains were deleted at the time of fault movement. In addition to that, various lattice defects in quartz from fault gouge were used for evaluation of the degree of resetting.
