断層ガウジのK-Ar年代測定 : 中央構造線における例  [in Japanese] K-Ar dating of fault gouge : examples along the Median Tectonic Line  [in Japanese]

Abstract

Determining the time of fault movement is quite important for earthquake prediction and for assessing a possible site of a nuclear power plant. This paper represents (1) the technique of the K-Ar dating of fault gouges, (2) the review of K-Ar ages of fault gouges along the Median Tectonic Line (MTL) and their geologic implications, and (3) some problems on the dating of fault gouge. The major movement phase of the MTL viewed from the age data of fault gouges from Shikoku to Chubu can be divided into four; 58-63 Ma, 34-45 Ma, 19-27 Ma and 10-14 Ma. Each phase is referable to the Ichinokawa Phase, Tobe Phase, Akaishi Phase (newly named) and Ishizuchi Phase, respectively. We must take into consideration that the meaning of the K-Ar age of fault gouge is the minimum age of thermal effect and/or resetting by hydrothermal activity.
