Abstract
北部フォッサマグナ地域の中新統・内村累層は, フォッサマグナ地域において中央構造線に接する地域に分布する。この地層中の火山岩類について全岩化学組成をXRFとINAAで分析した結果, FeO/MgO比が1.0以下であるデイサイト(シリカの球顆をもつので, それを差し引けば安山岩)と, FeO^*/MgOが1.0以下の玄武岩質安山岩が見られる。いずれも変質をかなり被っており, ほとんどの苦鉄質鉱物は仮像としてしか見られないが, 広河原層の高マグネシウム安山岩のひとつには単斜輝石の斑晶が残存している。その組成は, クロム(Cr_2O_3:0.8%), マグネシウム(Mg/(Mg+Fe)=0.89)に富んでいる。高マグネシウム安山岩をボニナイトとサヌカイトの2グループに分けて比較すれば, 内村累層のものはサヌカイトに似ており, この高マグネシウム安山岩の地質学的位置は, 西南日本弧において中央構造線の内帯側に瀬戸内火山岩類が分布する関係と調和的である。
The middle Miocene Uchimura formation is distributed in the northern Fossa Magna region, close to the Median Tectonic Line. Volcanic rocks in this formation include two groups of high-Mg andesites. One group consists of spherulitic dacites with FeO^*/MgO<1.0 (subtraction of the spherulites produces an andesitic composition) and others are high Mg basalt and basaltic andesite. Owing to alteration, mafic minerals are mostly replaced formed secondary minerals, but one of these rocks has high Cr (Cr_2O_3:0.8 Wt%) and Mg/(Mg+Fe)=0.89) clinopyroxene phenocrysts, indicating that the magma was primitive. The high Mg andesites are petrologically similar to sanukite of the Setouchi area, rather than Boninite of the Izu-Mariana arc. The geotectonic setting of the Uchimura area is similar to that of the Setouchi area of Southwest Japan, in that both occur along the Median Tectonic Line. However, the Uchimura formation is older (15 Ma) than main period of Setouchi magmatism (12-14 Ma). This time gap prpbably means that the timing of tectonic movements accompanying the opening of the Japan Sea was different between the Southwest Japan arc and the Fossa Magna region.
