南部フォッサマグナ・島弧-島弧衝突帯における水底火山(御坂地塊の例)  [in Japanese] Subaqueous volcanoes in an arc-arc collision zone in the south Fossa Magna, Central Japan : An example Misaka block  [in Japanese]

Abstract

According to the multiple arc-arc collision hypothesis, four blocks collided and accreted to the Honshu arc in the south Fossa Magnain central Japan as a result of subduction of the Philippine-sea plate under the North-American plate. The Kushigatayama, Tanzawa, and Izu blocks were probably volcanic islands belonging to the paleo-Izu Bonin arc. The Misaka block, which lie between the Kushigatayama and Tanzawa blocks, is an accreted back-arc rift of the paleo-Izu-Bonin arc, based on the lithofacies of lavas and pyroclastics of the Nishiyatsushiro Group in the western part of the Misaka mountains. The flow directions of pillow lobes in the Nishiyatsushiro Group show that small volcanic mounds of 2 to 3 km diameter were concentrated in the Misaka mountains. The main part of each volcanic mound is composed of basaltic colse-packed pillow lavas and related hyalodastite. Turbidite and debrite, which resulted from the collapse of these basaltic volcanoes, are distributed around these mounds. Thick fine-grained distal turbidites and dacitic submarine pyroclastic deposits cover the basaltic volcanic mounds. The fact that small dacitic submarine volcanoes are also distributed in the Misaka mountains indicates bimodal volcanism in a paleo-back-arc rift zone. These geologic features of the Misaka mountains resemble those of the Sumisu rift of the current Izu-Bonin arc.
