Abstract
Using the strong-motion records obtained from the Chiba-ken Tohooki Earthquake of December 17, 1989, we investigated three topics in relation to the geological characteristics, which are inferred from the strong-motion data. For three kinds of geologically different sites, pre-Tertiary rock sites, Tertiary rock sites and alluvium depositsites, the characteristics of site amplification are investigated. Next, we showed the critical potential of strong ground-motion, above which the artificially filled sands in the Tokyo Bay area liquefied. Finally, various secondary waves generated at around the Kanto basin are distinguished in the wave number domain.
