Abstract
There happened some problems about disaster information in the 1987 Earth quake off East Coast of Chiba Prefecture. These were as follows; 1. overcrowding of wireless communication between the prefectural office and cities, towns and villages. 2. heavy interruption of telephone service for general public. 3. overcrowding of telephone services of organizations for disaster prevention. 4. remarkable effect of information from radio. Firstly, wireless communication accumulated, which connected between the prefectural office and cities, towns and villages. And because of the overcrowding the prefectural office hardly could gain any disaster information from cities, towns and villages in several hours after earthquake. Secondly, telephone seroices for general public were heavily suspended. This was because many commuters and day students rushed to telephones all at once, as the earthquake occurred just before 12:00 on Thursday. Thirdly, telephone services of organizations for disaster prevention such as police stations and firestations were overcrowded for several hours. Moreover, because of above mentioned interruption of telephone services some cities and towns could neither collect nor disseminate any disaster information. Fourthly, radio played very effective role after the earthquake. This was because so many people couldn't look at television owing to power failure, and they exclusively relied on radio.
