奥新冠かんらん岩体は, 主にダナイトとハルツバージャイトからなり, 少量のレルゾライトとクロミタイトが随伴する。これらは層状構造を示さない。かんらん岩中に多数の変成ドレライトと変成キュムレイトが貫入している。かんらん岩体の岩石構成・産状および全岩と構成鉱物の化学的性質にもとづき, モホ面直下の最上部マントルが主にダナイトからなり, ハルツバージャイト中を上方に向かって通過した玄武岩質マグマのチャネルを復元した。また, ダナイトの成因を検討し, 母岩のハルツバージャイトが通過マグマとの反応によって交代された置換性ダナイトの形成モデルを示した。

The Oku-Niikappu peridotite complex in the Hidaka metamorphic Delt, Hokkaido, is composed mostly of harzburgite and dunite with small amounts of lherzolite and chromitite. A number of meta-dolerite dykes and meta-cumulate dykes crosscut the peridotites. The constitution of peridotite-types and their modes of occurrence, bulk rock chemical compositions, and the mineralogy suggest the similar lithology to ophiolitic uppermost mantle sequence that is characterized by replacive dunites formed after reactions of harzburgite with basaltic magmas channeling upward through the upper mantle.
