付加体地質学の誕生と発展  [in Japanese] Geology of accretionary prism : its birth and development  [in Japanese]

Abstract

四万十帯を中心とする日本列島基盤の研究は, 海溝付加体の内部構造とフィールドでの認識方法に大きな貢献を行ない, 付加体地質学というべき新しい分野を開拓した。これはわが国地質学の総力を結集しての成果であった。付加体地質学はさらに造山帯の再検討, 大陸地殻の進化, 付加された海洋底物質を用いたマントルダイナミックスおよび海洋古環境の復元による地球史の研究へと発展してきた。本論では, とくに私自身の研究履歴から見た付加体地質学誕生の経緯と今後の展望を概観する。

The establishment of the concept and method of recognition of an accretionary prism in the field is one of the major developments of Japanese geology in the last 20 years or so. This was achieved by an all out effort of the Japanese geological community. The concept has now been actively applied to the study of orogenic belts continental crust evolution, reconstruction of oceanic stratigraphy and the history of mantle dynamics. These works can potentially open a new horizon in 21st century geosciences.
